Salt Lake City Bees 9, Chihuahuas 5

Key Stats: LHP Jackson Wolf 3 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 4 K; LF Jose Azocar 1-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, BB; RF Eguy Rosario 1-for-4, HR (13), RBI; 1B Graham Pauley 1-for-2, BB, SB (2)

Prospect Watch: It’s like clockwork. If a  lefty is on the mound, Eguy Rosario is likely to collect an extra-base hit. Facing long-time big league pitcher Reid Detmers, Rosario connected on his 13th Triple-A home run of the year and 14th extra-base hit in 52 at-bats against left-handed pitching. On the season, Rosario is slugging .846 off lefties with a 1.210 OPS. The 24-year-old also made his fifth start in right field. His only challenging chance on the night was a shallow fly ball when he was playing deep. He got a bit of a slow read on it and made a diving effort, but the ball hit off his glove for a double. … While Rosario’s home run traveled 423 feet for the third-longest Triple-A home run of the night, Jose Azocar’s was more of a surprise. After not hitting a home run in his first 17 games after being sent down, the light-hitting outfielder has connected on two in his last three games. “Sugar” has hit safely in six of his last seven games and is hitting .279/.318/.459 in July.  … Coming out of the All-Star Break, Jackson Wolf has made a pair of appearances out of the bullpen. The lefty tossed three innings of one-run ball, striking out four. The Bees didn’t hit a ball over 90 mph against him. Wolf’s walk rate has more than doubled from 2.24 in 2023 to 5.31 this year. This was just the second multi-inning appearance in which Wolf has walked fewer than two batters all season. The appearance eliminates any consideration that Wolf would be added to the big league roster for a spot start on Friday.

De Vries hit his third home run in five games and seventh in 16 games this month. Through June 24, De Vries was hitting just .194 with a .302 SLG, but has turned it on since then, hitting .318 with a .712 slugging percentage during his tear. The 17-year-old is living up to his name of “El Mutante.”  … If it weren’t for De Vries, fellow teenager Rosman Verdugo would be the talk of the system. A headliner for the Padres’ 2022 international free agent class, Verdugo reached base safely twice to extend his on-base streak to 17 games. For the month, he is hitting .403 with a 1.138 OPS.  … After surrendering 18 earned runs over 16.2 innings in his last four starts, Jose Luis Reyes delivered a strong outing for the Storm. The 21-year-old righty from Mexicali allowed just one earned run over 5.2 innings.  After posting a solid 3.86 ERA in the second half for Lake Elsinore last year, Reyes is at a 6.92 ERA this season despite improvements on both his strikeout and walk rates.

The 18-year-old righty allowed four runs on four hits while only making it through 1.1 innings. He walked two and struck out two.
